Tengah Island Conservation (TIC) is pleased to announce a job opening for a GIS Conservation Officer.

This paid position is open to Malaysian citizens and permanent residents only.

The GIS Conservation Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing the organisation’s mission to protect and restore Malaysia’s marine ecosystems. This position combines technical expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with hands-on conservation efforts, enabling data-driven strategies to address marine biodiversity challenges. The officer will be involved in preparing spatial data analysis, habitat mapping, and field monitoring activities, providing critical insights to inform conservation planning and advocacy. Collaborating with researchers, communities, and policymakers, the role emphasises climate adaptation plan, sustainable marine resource management, habitat restoration, and capacity building to safeguard Malaysia’s rich marine heritage for future generations

The GIS Conservation Officer will be based at our project site on Pulau Tengah, though the position may entail frequent travel to Mersing and other Johor Islands. The candidate should be willing to work on a small island for one year (with the possibility of an extension). This position is to start in January 2025 and will report to the Project Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, GIS, or a related field.

  • It is compulsory to be proficient in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data analysis.

  • Knowledge of Malaysian marine ecosystems, laws, and policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of conservation and sustainability principles and practices.

  • Experience in marine conservation, habitat restoration, or similar fields.

  • SCUBA diving certification (minimum Open Water). Candidates without a diving licence must be willing to undertake diving certification during the working contract with TIC.
